Simple Beginnings
Long before Chantilly became a world-class Club known for exceptional golfing, fine dining and unrivaled social events, it was a simple dairy farm owned by John Rose and his son Roy. From 1921 to 1951, the Rose family tended to their livestock on the land where Chantilly Members now gather. And in 1937, they built the original dairy barn that now serves as our beloved clubhouse.
The Rose family sold their farm in 1951 to the Wimsatt Farm Syndicate, which worked the property until 1958 when the Kena Temple Shriners of Alexandria purchased the land with a new vision — to create a 36-hole golf course and temple. Construction began in July of 1959, with local golf course architect Ed Ault leading the project. The course opened for play on Memorial Day, 1960.
Despite the allure of the stunning new course, the Shriners had difficulty attracting new members. With Chantilly National Airport under construction nearby, an enthusiastic group of core members purchased the property under the title of Chantilly Inc., a nod to the original name of Dulles Airport, which now serves 24 million travelers each year.
In December 2013, Invited purchased the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club from Chantilly Inc. to build upon that proud history by delivering excellence in the moment.
